As he sat there immersed in the sight of fabric that made the bear’s head, the girl still stood by the window, instead of tiptoeing towards the bed to hide under the soft covers. It was expected of her, his request quite clear. Adamant in the expressed desire to be practically invisible to her, he supposed it would not be quite right to complain about the preferred spot in the room from which she chose to ignore him. His wishes drastically different, yet the time since he had learned anything of the sort fell under the territory of illusory hopes bordering on foolishly delusional flights of fancy was long gone. Surprisingly enough, this was not another ploy to snatch her attention. Were that the case, crocodile tears would be streaming down his cheeks and an especially painful crack would appear in his voice as he’d hurl a string of accusations and ultimatums at her. Nothing of the sort happened and since she wasn’t forced to yield under a cumbersome and hysterical siege, not even a passing glance was expected to linger anywhere near his general direction. The uneasy footsteps clashing against the nervous rhythm of the heart came as a surprise, but were immediately interpreted as an augury of a ludicrous request. Something along the lines of recklessly ignoring the dangers that lurked in the unfamiliar surroundings at the dead of the night just so she could flee as far as possible, as quickly as he’d allow it. Not quite.
Just what was she doing? Touching his hair so freely and familiarly, as if to offer comfort by doing something so bold. His mind half made up to slap her hand away and indulge in another outburst where he’d yet again fill the role of a hysterical harpy this time screaming about permissions. Before even opening his mouth to speak, the kiss placed on his forehead lulled him into complete silence, the gentle softness of it erasing the edge of his initial reaction. Maybe this was a way to display resolution about her earlier words. While it surpassed the condescending gesture that preceded it, it was still insufficient. However the promise of something he lacked completely was strangely captivating to his mind, each brief moment that her lips lingered on his skin fueling it further. Maybe, just maybe those weren’t unctuous platitudes, the timid kiss entirely of her own accord. The very thought almost shocking. And again only most delectable tidbits rolled off her tongue, it sounded like care, even worry. Impossible, she never displayed either, why then Aliyah would when he was perfectly fine? Mimicking her earlier action, he left Teddy to guard the chair and approached her, the space between them enough to fit a thin veil. To help alleviate a bit of her nervous stutter, he took her hand in the palm of his for a moment before his fingers skated up her arm and played over the curve of her neck until they became a tangle in her hair by which he gently pulled her even closer. Pinpricks of sensation scattered like miniscule particles where his lips met hers in a kiss. Slow and soft at first and somewhat quick to return to that state after a sudden change in intensity. Even after he slowly pulled away his face lingered close enough for soft breath to graze her cheek “I’ll smile if you kiss me again.”
She stood there rigidly as though she had reverted into a marble statue, fully expecting him to lash out at any second in the most heinous of ways, because she didn’t have the right to speak out against him, her a lowly human, nor did she have the right to touch him so intimately, despite its innocence. Truly, it was a fatal mistake, she could have very well left him to sulk, the lone stuffed bear positioned in his the lap providing him with the only source of companionship while she eagerly explored every nook and crevice of the manor, hardly concerning herself over one vampire. She could have done anything of the sort…but she didn’t. Instead she threw every ounce of caution to the northern winds, paying little heed to the consequences that would ensue. But now the temptation to scramble off into one of the nearest corners and huddle there like a frightened mouse for God knows how long was all too alluring, so much so that her optics flickered to the specific spot, contemplating whether to undergo such a risk even though it would be futile. Attempting to run from would only prolong her suffering, maybe if she struggled less the pain would be instant, unfortunately that was too absurd to even dwell on for long. Ever so slightly she shifted on her feet, trying to stifle the dread that sank to the bottom of her stomach similar to lead as he closed the measly few inches that separated them. And in that moment she wanted to die.
Without any kind of warning, she felt his fingertips ghost over her skin, leaving a searing trail in its wake, her eyes widened almost to the size of saucers. Coherent thoughts dissipated in an instant as drew closer and closer still until something soft pressed against her lips and she needn’t guess what it was. She couldn’t understand why Kanato was doing this, to her of all people, but as the seconds passed achingly slow she was ensnared by the his gentleness, yet she could barely find it in herself to respond. And when he finally parted from her she was nearly paralyzed, a flurry of emotions swept over her, making it difficult to focus on anything, except for his request that echoed against her eardrums. Was he teasing her so that he might delight in her flustered reaction? Peering at his face, she surmised that he was quite serious, and it was hard to decipher if that was a blessing or a curse. But wouldn’t refuse, couldn’t refuse him, after all she would go to lengths just to lift his mood. Slowly, she leaned against him, their lips brushing for the umpteenth time that night. It was much bolder than the last, though that was the least of her cares, buried under the embarrassment etched in her being. When reluctantly she distanced herself, her eyes softened despite the cherry hue dusted across the contours of her face. “Was that…alright? Will you smile now…?”
